Deborah Bowness likes to put the objects that inhabit our homes — file cabinets, books, lamps, chairs — on our walls. Her wall panels (shown is New Antique Books) are portraits, in effect, and Bowness uses them to endow our objects with meaning. Each panel starts with a black-and-white photograph, which Bowness silk-screens and finishes with tinted ink. The look is arty with a touch of Warhol, like vintage photographs with a kick of Technicolor. In addition to her stock inventory, Bowness creates custom panels, where her oeuvre extends beyond objects to anything she can photograph. deborahbowness.com.

I have always preferred linen napkins to paper ones. I never use paper or plastic dishes and I hardly ever put anything in the dryer if I can help it. I much prefer to hang clothes outdoors, one of the benefits of living in a sunny climate and having a big enough backyard to string a clothesline.

Punk rock fashion doyenne Vivienne Westwood has teamed up with wallpaper firm Cole & Son (usually known for their classic and — dare I say — boring-ish wall coverings).

Design blogs are a lot like gelato: ubiquitous and addictive. My guilty pleasure. Just when I think I’ve read every one that’s worth reading — tasted every flavor — I stumble upon a link to an even more fabulous blog.

Unlike most design magazines, which tend to be proper, smut-free bastions of elegant language and terminology, design blogs push the envelope. Decorno (“décor porno”) is one such blog.

My friend Alaina lives in Chicago. She recently moved into a gorgeous new apartment that she shares with her boyfriend and their dog, Tucker. Her style is modern-meets-traditional and she has a penchant for West Elm — it’s understandable, she’s only 25!
